Universal Studios is one of the most insanely fun places ever, but its big, and there’s a lot to see and do, an planning a trip there for the first or nineteenth time, can be intimidating, but I’m here to help. Here are my best tips for seeing, eating, and doing every MUST at Universal Studios Orlando.
Take advantage of crowd calendars. My favorite is available at Undercover Tourist, and it is invaluable in making sure you don’t show up at Universal on the same day that everyone else in the entire world does. Even if you’re heading there at one of the peak times, there may be a day in the mix that wont be as hectic as the rest, and a crowd calendar will make sure you find it.
If you only have one day, I cannot recommend the unlimited Fast Pass Tickets enough. They allow you to use the Fast Pass lines, as many times as you’d like, on almost any ride. without pre-booking a time. Combined with the Park Hopper pass, it allows you to squeeze a ton of rides in both parks, into a single day. That being said, if its at all possible, i think the best way to take full advantage of the parks is with (at least) 2 days with Fast passes, 1 day in Universal Studios and 1 in Islands of Adventure.
Make Note of Opening Times
The parks don’t open at the same times every day, and one park is usually open before the other. Take advantage of this extra time that will probably be the empty-est you see the parks all day
Make Note of the Show Times
I love, love the shows at Universal! Even if you’re not the biggest fan of live action, trust me you will appreciate having a break from walking and standing in the lines. So pick one or two you would love to see and make a point of their showtimes. Two of my favorites are the Sinbad stunt show on Islands of Adventure, and Fear Factor at Universal Studios.
Know What Rides You Cannot Miss
and make sure you hit them first thing in the morning before the rides get too long, especially if they don’t offer a Fast Pass option. ( *cough *cough Reign of Kong)
Get a Map at the front Gate
Because you will get lost.
Ride Hogwarts Express Between the Parks
If you have a park hopper pass, you can catch the Hogwarts express between Diagon-Alley and Hogsmeade and take advantage of the extra show, as well as 15 minutes off your feet. Make sure you ride it both ways though because the scenery is different depending coming than it is going.
Take Time to Eat
Whether you eat in the Park, or head out to City Walk there are a million and one different places to grab a bite. I highly recommend Bubba Gump Shrimp near the front of the City Walk, the food is amazing and the service is very quick.
Enjoy the Sights Between The Rides
The rides are only half of the amazingness at Universal Studios, and if you rush from ride to ride, you may just miss something amazing! Like a Tyrannosaurus sneaking out of the bushes by the Jurassic Park River Adventure, or a Shark who has seen better days on Main Street. Not to mention that there are characters everywhere ready for a selfie and an autograph.
